It did not matter
what shows were on television,
whether a comedy,
a detective show,
the late-night news.
Each had the same ending,
a repeat performance
as I fell into a nether world,
fast asleep,
at the end of each program.
The only thing set in motion,
a turned off mind, eyes closed,
one resting in peace for the evening,
a tranquil slumber,
one now, known by heart.
